How to turn on/off the alert when emails arrive in Outlook?
Normally the alert of message arrival works fine in your Microsoft Outlook, and an alert will come out at the lower-right corner of your desktop when your receive a new email message, as the following screen shot shows.
In some cases, you may get a number of message arrival in a short time, therefore the alert messages will be popping up on your computer all the time. It will be quite annoying and affect your work efficiency. It seems necessary to turn off the alert of message arrival temporarily in your Microsoft Outlook.
To open Notification Center, click in the upper-right corner of your screen, or swipe left with two fingers from the right edge of your trackpad. To view notifications that you missed, such as calendar alerts or FaceTime calls, click Notifications at the top of Notification Center. Check the Use Cached Exchange Mode to download email to an Outlook data file box, position the slider for email to download as desired (slide it all the way to the right to download all email), and then click Next. Click Done, and then close the 'Account Settings' window. Restart Outlook. For more details, see Turn on Cached Exchange Mode.

Turn on / off alert when emails arrive in Outlook 2010 / 2013
This section is guidance about how to turn on or off the alert when email messages arrive in Microsoft Outlook 2010 and 2013.
Step 1: Click the File > Options.
Step 2: Click the Mail in the left bar.
Step 3: Go to the Message arrival section, to turn off the alert:
- Uncheck the Play a sound option;
- Uncheck the Briefly change the mouse pointer option;
- Uncheck the Show an envelope icon in the taskbar option;
- Uncheck the Display a desktop Alert option.
Note: To turn on the alert of message arrival, please check all of four options above.
Step 4: Click OK to finish setting.
And now no more alert will come out on your desktop when new email messages arrive.
Turn on / off alert when emails arrive in Outlook 2007
It is quite different to turn on or off the alert of message arrival in Outlook 2007, from those steps in Outlook 2010/2013.
Step 1: Click the Tools > Options.
Step 2: On the Preferences tab, click the E-mail Options button.
Step 3: In the new E-mail Options dialog box, click the Advanced E-mail Options button.
Step 4: Go to the When new items arrive in my Inbox section in the Advanced E-mail Options, and to turn off the alert:
- Uncheck the Play a sound option;
- Uncheck the Briefly change the mouse cursor option;
- Uncheck the Show an envelope icon in the notification area option;
- Uncheck the Display a New Mail Desktop Alert (default Inbox only) option.
Note: To turn on the alert of message arrival, please check all of four options above.
Step 5: Click all OK buttons in each dialog box.

They seem unaware of the bug in Outlook. I have [i]all four notification boxes unchecked[/i]. Even so, every new email puts a box in the center of the screen that steals focus. Whatever I happen to be typing at the time has to be retyped.
